What's all this about tv's in the grocery store! I've never seen one. that is just wrong on so many levels...arn't you there to shop? not lounge. the grocery store is so overstimulating as it is.

The fellow inhabitants of my dorm find myself and my roommate perplexing. We're the only dorm room without a TV hooked up. We're the only ones who don't go bantering off to watch South Park or The Office or whatever else they rave about watching.

No thank you. I'll stick to my rejection of TV. My roommate and I have different reasons for not watching TV. His is that there are no good shows, so what's the point? Mine is a simple rejection of the corrupting influence it is having on society.

Tv is also a convenient way to be lazy with your children, just plonk them in front of it and you can do something 'more important'! No matter how vigilant youmay ba against the tv, it won't make a difference if your kids are corrupted by the advertising.

The TV is just what you plug your playstation into...Ah, who am I kidding? I watch tons of stuff, play tons of games and the rest of the time have music playing through it.

Gotta agree with the advertising angle, though. thank the gods for BBC!  :D

I must revise a previous post, my college roommate has given into the glowing box and hooked one up in our room. :(

However I do not understand why, the only time it was ever turned on was when it kept turning on due to a timer that we couldn't figure out how to deactivate. The glowing box is currently unplugged :P

So in a way he gave in and joined the rest of society by having a TV, yet in another way it is just another piece of useless clutter :P

... all we need is some way to accomplish camera-jamming... anyone got a remote for that?

One could always build an array of infrared LEDs and point it at the camera or use laser pointer.  It won't turn the camera off but it will tweak/blind the ccd/cmos.  The image will show a bright light but the human eye will not notice it for the LEDs, for the laser you are on your own to experiment with.   8)   One could build a flashlight and point it at the cameras for grins.  Some college chums used to build these LED flashers to force a green light while at stop lights.  However, this is now a crime in the U.S. (http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2005/08/68507) and would not be recommended for vehicular use.  ???   Why would anyone drive 80mph through an intersection?

Before I get sidetracked, one could see what I am getting at by using your digital camera (cell phone or stand-alone) and pointing a television, DVD, VCR remote at it and pushing a button on the remote.  You'll notice the flashing light on the camera but not with your naked eye.  ;)   None of this is an "off switch" more of an annoyance and possibly entertaining.

If all else fails, slap the old sticker on it or use sand paper on the lens.  Cheaper camera boxes and many PTZ cameras use materials susceptible to abrasive countermeasures.  Ultimately it all hinges on how bad one wants to be.  Please make sure none of this will get you in trouble with the law, it'd only be one more place for the Evergreen's of the world to gather more information on you.

Enjoy!

At the risk of looking suspicious you can also paint your face:

Military style face paint anyone?

I doubt the face paint will work against infrared cameras but I also don't think those are in wide public use.  Generally higher security areas would use those.
