General Semantics
« on: February 27, 2010, 05:14:44 PM »
I've never really taken much notice of general semantics, but re-reading A E Van Vogt's Null-A books makes me think that Harlequins must necessarily be experts at it. I am, needless to say, NOT an expert - is there anyone out there who can shed some light? Delta - I'm relying on you here...

Steffers..

I understand general symantics but, not so great at explaining it. Most likely, as you said Delta is a great resource.

If you want to check it out there is a book called "The art of awareness: a text book on general semantics" written by J.Samuel Bois. this may help a little.

Good luck!

I find your excess of faith ironic. I had to go look up general semantics to figure out what you were talking about!

I will have to read more on the subject, I might even get back to you on this…truth be told I had never heard of General Semantics prior to this post.

It's not the first time my faith has been rocked, and I daresay it won't be the last (sigh)!

I came upon General Semantics via A E Van Vogt's books, the World of Null'A and the Pawns of Null'A (in the USA, this was published as the Players of Null'A). As far as I can see, Null-a (non-aristotelian) is a way of looking at the world which would greatly appeal to a Harlequin, as it widens the perception and uses logic rather than letting human emotions automatically colour our responses to the Universe.

We'd better ask JX11H!
